We all have to start somewhere…

I fell in love with nutrition at a young age when I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. I recognized early on that food was a critical factor in controlling my blood sugar. The old saying, “we are what we eat” is most certainly true. Realizing the importance of this, I focused my studies on nutrition and gained a master’s degree in clinical nutrition. I then became a Registered Dietician and Certified Diabetes Care and Education specialist which launched my career in endocrinology. I was one of the first early adopters of GLP-1 medications such as Byetta & Bydureon in 2005, after working with some top endocrinologists in New York City during the Phen Phen craze. GLP-1 receptor agonists showed great promise early on for weight loss and blood sugar management.

With my vast knowledge in nutrition, I decided to take on the challenge of becoming the first female professional bodybuilder with Type 1 Diabetes and became Miss Universe 2004 in Santa Susanna, Spain. I was also the only American to ever win two pro cards that same year, winning the North American Championships. Following my coveted Universe title, I would grace the Arnold Classic and Olympia stages. I started Color by Colette, a make-up and tanning business that allowed me to be creative and began my love for facial anatomy.

After I retired from professional bodybuilding in 2014, I decided to go back to school and become a registered nurse and, finally, a family nurse practitioner. I graduated Summa Com Laude with a 4.0 GPA. I spent most of my clinicals developing my aesthetic skills with top injectors from NY, NJ, and TX. It was the perfect blend of my makeup artistry, understanding of facial anatomy, and love for keeping people hormonally balanced with insulin, reproductive hormones, thyroid, and healing peptides. I have been working in endocrinology my whole career and have found that this discipline complements the aesthetic goals of my patients by helping them feel good both inside and out… who doesn’t want that?
