Colette Nelson began her medical career as a Registered Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES), where she quickly distinguished herself as a leading expert in Type 1 diabetes management. She was an early adopter and educator in the use of insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), inhaled insulin, and intensive insulin therapy, helping patients achieve precise glucose control with advanced technology.
In 2005, Colette was among the first nutrition professionals to recognize the clinical promise of GLP-1 and GIP receptor agonists, foreseeing their profound impact on weight management, metabolic health, and longevity well before they became standard in endocrinology.
Her passion for health extended beyond the clinical setting. Drawing on her expertise in sports nutrition and weight training, Colette earned the prestigious title of Ms. Universe in 2004. Her success on the professional bodybuilding stage led to her becoming a Board-Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD)—a credential awarded to the most advanced practitioners in performance nutrition. Over her 10-year career as a top-ranked IFBB professional bodybuilder, she also embraced entrepreneurship, working as a sought-after makeup artist and founding her own spray tanning business, Color by Colette.
Following her retirement from competitive bodybuilding, Colette returned to academia to broaden her clinical scope. She earned her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, graduating summa cum laude, and became a Board-Certified Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) with a specialization in endocrinology. During her clinical training, she pursued advanced education in aesthetic medicine, earning credentials from the American Academy of Facial Esthetics (AAFE) and developing a passion for blending metabolic wellness with aesthetic rejuvenation.
With over two decades of experience in endocrinology, Colette brings a holistic, integrative approach to patient care—helping individuals optimize not only how they feel but also how they look. Most recently, she became a Menopause Society Certified Practitioner (MSCP), a distinction that places her among a select group of providers formally recognized for expertise in menopause and midlife women’s health.
